About Welsummer Chickens
2012
My Welsummers have been selectively bred for their utility qualities
and more specifically for egg colour and size. Although I have not bred for
showing, these birds conform to the British Poultry Standards for
appearance, size and weight.
They are an ideal breed for keeping in your back garden, being extremely placid and friendly in nature, with the bonus of laying the largest and deepest terracotta brown eggs you will come across. You can expect them to keep laying for five to eight years, although there are many recordings of Welsummer hens continuing to lay for 10 to 12 years.
